Pilbarra, in the West Pilbarra District, has a population of about 50, most of whom are supported by alluvial gold-mining. It is the place where the first alluvial gold on the Pilbarra Goldfield was discovered, and gave its name to the field. Some very large nuggets have been found here, and there is every probability that more will be found later on. There is now a battery of 10 stamps. Pilbarra is 110 miles from Roebourne, with which it is connected by a good road. It has a fortnightly mail. Pinoelly is a small agricultural centre situated on the PerthAlbany line, about 135 miles from Perth. Since the resumption of the Great Southern line by the Government, land settlement has increased considerably. The land is good, and well suited for agriculture, which is the principal industry of the district. There is a railway station, post and telegraph office, agricultural hall, school, one hotel, Anglican church, stores, etc., in the town. Population: 170 males, 180 females; total, 350. Pinjarrah, 54 miles from Perth, situated on the Murray River, is the centre of an agricultural district of large area, about 50 by 60 miles. It is well watered by this river, and the district is capable of producing all kinds of cereals, vegetables, and fruits of both the temperate and tropical zone. The district has much good land, which is being rapidly taken up by an increasing population. The town is now well supplied with sawn timber from the neighbouring mills, an incentive to intending settlers, as hitherto building was very expensive.
